There are some days when you just cannot get the motivation to hit your workout regime. You feel demotivated and it appears to be a herculean task to get your workout shoes on. If you are suffering from one of those days, here are some mental hacks to get you back on your feet and get moving.

The Big ‘Why’?

Everyone wants to get fit. And everyone has a reason to get there. Whether it is to improve your health, to get into you old pants which no longer fits you, to flaunt your body on the beach or be a fitter parent and role model to others, it’s always easier to remain motivated when you have a purpose. Identify that purpose and that will definitely motivate you to jump out of bed and get going.

GET, SET, AND COMPETE

Be competitive. That is one of the biggest factors that will help you throw yourself out of the couch. Be your own best friend and your worst enemy. Compete with yourself or find a gym buddy to compete with. You must however remember that being competitive does not mean being jealous. Appreciate the wins that both of you share and work upon the setbacks.

Recent study published in the journal Obesity, highlights, that social influence of team-based weight loss competitions can help you lose up to 20 percent more weight than you would, if you did it alone.

MAKE A WORLD OF HEALTH

Surround yourself with health. The biggest sabotage you can do while trying to get fit, is to have a refrigerator full of unhealthy and calorie dense stuff. Be wise and shed that junk food out of your house. A spring-cleaning of sorts is necessary to get you going for your fitness journey.

SHOW SOME SELF-LOVE

Negative feedback or self-criticism has been scientifically proven to cause more harm than good. So any time you slip on that planned gym schedule, or binge into a tasty calorific dish, do not reprimand yourself. Instead, take it in your stride, and exercise some more after your ‘cheat day’.

TOUGH LOVE IS ALSO MANDATORY

As the saying goes, spare the rod and spoil the child. So does the fact that too much of self-love will start being visible on that jiggly belly or the stubborn thigh fat. It is important to be honest with yourself when it comes to self-critique. It’s too easy to sugar coat things and pretend like it’s okay. It’s not okay.

A SELFIE A DAY KEEPS THE KILOS AWAY

Track your journey to fitness through a selfie each day. Post it on a social network, or just keep a private album to track your fitness. A picture is worth a thousand words, so keep clicking that flabbiness away. This will motivate you to stop being lazy and work extra hard towards your fitness goal.
